Sardinia, a Mediterranean island paradise with something for everyone - gorgeous sandy beaches and bright, clear seas, archaeological remains, majestic mountains and a vibrant, independent culture reflected in its art and cuisine.

With its beautiful beaches of white and pink sand, its secret bays and coves, its majestic crags and mountains, Sardinia has been a popular spot for millennia.

Here you'll find the influence of numerous visitors - the bronze age Nuragic culture, Phoenicians, Romans, Vandals and Byzantines all came and went. The Spanish and Austrians left their stamp. Now an autonomous region of Italy, it is a magical blend of flavours, colours and sounds, a proud land with its own language - a distillation of the Mediterranean.

Sardinia is the second island in the Mediterranean Sea for extension. Because of its geographic position in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea and its resources, especially the mining resources, Sardinia has always represented the colonizers' destination. DH Lawrence visited in the early 1920s and found it 'lost between Europe and Africa and belonging to nowhere'. Sardinia is a very ancient island rich in history and legends and everywhere there are traces of human settlements dated from the Neolithic Age, the bizarre nuraghi, conical stone buildings, rather like beehives. Sardinian hard (wild) landscape is characterized by mountain chains, massifs, tablelands (plateau), Campidano plain and by rivers. Some artificial lakes and numerous ponds, soften Sardinian view. Sardinian coasts are full of beaches, mortises and cliffs which are lapped by the blue water of Sardinian sea. Many caves show their treasures of stalactites and stalagmites to the visitors. Mediterranean scrub, oleasters and ficodindia prevail in Sardinian landscape.
